The International Journal of Perioperative Care
Guidance for authors
The International Journal of Perioperative Care, published twice a year, provides readers with the opportunity to keep up-to-date with current issues affecting professionals working in the perioperative and related fields.
Welcomed are articles relating directly to operating theatres, perioperative care, anaesthesia, endoscopy, critical care, sterile services, infection control and many other areas.
The following guidelines are designed to be helpful to authors considering submitting articles to The International Journal of Perioperative Care:
- Articles submitted to the journal may be research based, reportage, or opinion pieces.
- In any article, company or brand names should not be mentioned repeatedly. If drugs are referred to, generic names should be used.
- Ideally, the text of an article should be about 2,000 words. The method of delivery is by emailed Word or Rich Text Format document to:
- One or two pictures or other images to illustrate text are welcomed. Appropriately sized pictures and other images in high resolution (300 dpi for colour; 150 dpi for mono; 600 dpi for line work) j-peg format should be emailed to A caption for each picture or image should be supplied.
- Any references should be clearly set out at the foot of the article.
- An author’s biographical note of a few sentences should accompany the article.
- Full contact details for the author should be supplied.
- A photograph of the author is welcomed.
- Deadlines: Ideas for articles should be discussed with the editor at least two months in advance of the intended month of publication. Text and associated material needs to be received by the editor no later that the last working day of the month preceding the month of publication. Journal volume deadlines will be posted on www.ifpn.org.uk . Copy will not be accepted after the stated deadline.
- The Editor retains the right to edit the article, without reference to the author but will endeavour to undertake this process collaboratively. Articles will be peer reviewed prior to publication. The editor’s decision to publish or reject articles is final.
Once accepted for publication, authors are required to sign a release form and a declaration that the article is their own work. The article then becomes the copyright of the International Journal of Perioperative Care.
